The best live performance I’ve ever witnessed as a Super writer would be HONNE’s Wanderland set in 2017. The crowd was cramped in front of the festival’s smaller stage, but it didn’t stop anyone from having a great time. Nothing but perfect tunes were sung by Andy Clutterbuck, HONNE’s vocalist, and the giddy crowd matched his heartfelt performance.

Disney princess in training



It’s no surprise that my generation grew up watching everything Disney, and it remains to be a huge factor that not only anchors us to our childhood, but it gives us a sense of the very values that make us thrive in adulthood: Courage, identity, and the endless pursuit of wonder.

There’s simply no growing up from Disney, because, firstly, there is no need to.

Its animated and live-action films have always introduced such curious yet awe-inspiring characters, with timeless plots that revolve about friendship, family, and culture—sometimes more deeply than how we remember them to be.

I’ve religiously kept up with almost all the Disney films all throughout the 90s til early 2000s, but it was only until my sister, Zoee, came into the picture that I started searching my memories for movie titles and rewatching the very films I saw at her young age.

Having a baby, now a toddler, in the household is by far the most exciting and joyous experience. And I must say this little munchkin has bonded us together as a family more than anything, making me appreciate the kind of dynamic we have always shared even more.

So let me tell you a little bit about her: Zoee’s got quite a personality—she’s effortlessly kooky, obsessive, and witty. There’s this certain brilliance in her, and this goes with a certain sense of responsibility to hone her mind, interests, and behavior as early as we can.

My approach? Turning her into a Disney baby.

The incredible family is back


You know that the sequel earned its right to be raved about when it makes us laugh twice as much and twice as hard, and puts on scenes that make us hold our breaths a little bit longer.

Sharing tattoos with Adam


“Are you for real? Oh god, this is freaking me out! Are you absolutely sure about this?” Adam J. Kurtz asks me in a panic.

I just told the New York-based artist he could draw anything he wanted on my arm and I would have it immediately tattooed in the afternoon.




And yes, I was sure about it. I’ve nursed this crazy plan as soon as National Book Store and Graphika Manila announced Adam would be at their events on the first weekend of February.

‘Deadpool 2’ further defines the crazy character



Deadpool’s comeback film is all about the “F word.” While it challenges itself to pack every scene with wilfully stupid mayhem and meta-references like its origin story, “Deadpool 2” widens its story arc by humanizing its characters even more and boldy trying to turn itself into a dark family action-comedy.

The Merc with the Mouth (Ryan Reynolds) doesn’t shed his antihero attitude. But he does learn to care about others outside his circle. When a super soldier from the future time-travels to end the life of an orphaned mutant, Deadpool takes on the responsibility to protect the child.

‘Every Day’ shows a love that leaves traces


“Always the same age, but never in the same body twice.”

Fans of David Levithan’s bestselling novel “Every Day” have waited too long to hear this line through booming cinema speakers, and now they can indulge themselves in an adaptation that shows enduring excitement in a story of true love and identity.

The story introduces a 16-year-old mysterious soul that wakes up every day in a new body. A, as it has named oneself, gets to know each one of the people he inhibits on a level that nobody else could. A gets more access to their memories and thoughts the longer the bodies are inhibited—but the thing is, A only gets to stay for 24 hours in their lives.

TAEK imagines ‘We're Always Together’ into reality



TAEK’s artistry is nothing too flashy nor too bold, but the music latches on to its listeners because of its gentleness, remorseful yet romantic messages and subtle playful notes. The musician is often soft spoken and timid, but we discovered the secret to instantly make him smile—just tell him the words “Red Velvet” (yup, the girl group) and he warms up the whole room with his laugh. In an interview with Inquirer Super, TAEK and I talk about his first EP:

 It usually just starts with one word or one sentence.

 The rest of it comes from the feelings I get from those and I try to build the song around them. The sequencing, arrangements and final lyrics come later, but it all goes back to that keyword or key sentence. It’s all inspired by that, and in most cases, it also becomes the title.

My week in scraps

Stumbled upon Adam J. Kurtz’s 2010 project called My Week In Scraps and decided to try it for myself as I do keep a ton of trinkets (basically trash for other people) hidden in various paper bags and tin boxes.


































































The New York-based artist created weekly collages for four years, documenting different kinds of moments captured by small, pocketable pieces,  whether it’s exploring new cities or gaining new experiences and relationships.





























It’s amazing how you can use these trivial things to reflect on what’s important to you—receipts showing what you spend on, tickets being a proof of the time you enjoyed wasting, and ultimately what you choose to keep.

If you ever plan to crash a DNCE band rehearsal, here’s a short list of what you need to bring: adult beverages, local snacks, and a game-for-anything attitude.

The funk-rock band reveals it’s always like a 10-year-old’s birthday party whenever they get together. And yes, that includes all the fun, noise, and maybe even some uncontrollable chaos, as any kid’s party goes.

“We’re just sitting around and there’s always snacks, soda, in front of us. We make fun of each other and then get around with playing a little bit of music,” bass guitarist Cole Whittle shares.

“But all our attention spans are short so we end up goofing around and leaving to go somewhere cool,” he adds.

I geeked out with webcrawlers at the Marvel Creative Day Out


How do we know firsthand that the Marvel Universe is indeed made of interconnected story lines? Well, we got to see three Spider-Man superheroes right in front of our eyes in the same place, at the same time.

At the Marvel Creative Day Out, friends Zack Tolosa, GP Manalo and Joyce Dizon all swung by the art and design-focused event to share their love for Spider-Man and all things Marvel. They didn’t just wear a shirt with the face of their favorite character—they actually brought him to life.

“Why is Spider-Man my favorite? I mean, why not?” Joyce, dressed as parody character Spider-Ham, said.

10 Super facts about Dara


1. Top 2018 goal

Seems like Dara will be granting the number one wish of her fans by next year—a solo album is on the works! “My first priority is the album,” Sandara tells Super. “I’m focusing on recording and collecting songs.”

2. The most-awaited solo album

OK, calm down, Blackjacks—that’s not even the best part! Sandara also reveals she already has five tracks and she has been working on her first-ever solo album since summer this year.  “Nakakatawa I started working on my album this summer, the first songs pa-disco-disco pa. Tapos, biglang winter na, sabi ko sa producer ko gusto ko naman ng mga sad songs. Sabi niya lang sakin: HA??” OMG, we’ll be expecting a good mix of tracks from this album then!

3. Dream music collaboration

“Ang ideal na collaboration ko is with a rapper—ang dami nila sa YG! Maybe I can get them on board, tapos kakanta ako,” she says. Sandara also reveales that she’s hoping it’s an acoustic track! We just hope she will collaborate with YG artist ONE one day.

4. Dara TV’s next vlogs

Whenever Sandara mentions she’s now a YouTuber in her Dara TV vlogs, she always says it in disbelief. “Syempre hindi pa ako yung professional na vlogger, but it’s really fun! You just need one camera and you shoot whatever you want and it already becomes one episode,” Dara says.

She says she is the talent, director, producer of her own vlogs but always credits the amazing Dara TV team for their amazing cuts and edits. Next on Dara TV are vlogs on her recent birthday celebration, Boracay trip with Seungri of BigBang, covers of songs (which includes OPM hits), and her favorite Seoul restaurants. One of Super’s suggestions is her skincare routine, but Dara reveals there’s nothing special about it and she only does three to four steps of the famed 10-step Korean skincare regimen.

5. Your 2018 Valentine’s Day movie

She has finished shooting “Cheese In The Trap” last July. You’ll finally get to see Dara on the big screen again this February 2018—we just hope it shows in Philippine cinemas, too!

Sandara lives on the spotlight


A few hours before Sandara Park’s awaited Penshoppe fan meet at the Kia Theater, the local fashion powerhouse’s brand director, Jeff Bascon, enters the waiting room.

“I’m so excited for this!” is his greeting.

“I’m such a fan of Dara and watching her rehearse these past three days, I realized why they’re called superstars in the first place,” Jeff says.

No one in that room had any doubts that the former “fresh vocals” of girl group 2NE1 can pull of a show on her own.

She beams brightly the second the lights reveal her on stage. Sandara knows how to start a show with the fierce and upbeat medley of “Fire” and “Do You Love Me.” And yes, of course, they love her.
